Foster and Kinship Carer Handbook 2017

The foster and kinship carer handbook provides information about the support available to help you in your day-to-day caring role. This includes information about training, home visits and short breaks when you need them, financial support and other Queensland and Commonwealth Government benefits. The handbook includes all the things you need to know about caring for a child who is placed with you, along with helpful tips and advice from other foster and kinship carers.

The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services is the lead government agency in Queensland in Child Protection and are responsible for the care and protection of all Queensland children. Family and Child Connect ready to help vulnerable families

The first seven Family and Child Connect services are now operating across Queensland. These community-based services will assist vulnerable families to get the help they need by connecting them to the right services at the right time, before Child Safety needs to intervene.

Family and Child Connect is now operating in the following locations:

Gold Coast

Community Foster Care Agency Contacts 

Alongside peak bodies and advocacy groups, community foster care agencies have a key role to play in providing foster care related services throughout Queensland. They provide a range of alternative care services, relating to:

  • foster carer recruitment
  • foster carer training
  • foster carer support
  • placement of children and young people in foster care
  • other child protection support services.
